Outreach Volunteer
I enjoy doing STEM teaching and outreach.  Physcient has participated in career day at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science (NCMLS) and iRobot has an awesone STEM outreach program called SPARK (Starter Programs for the Advancement of Robotics Knowledge).  At the iRobot office in Durham NC, we participate each year in the Robot Rumble at the NCMLS.  This is a fun event for kids to learn about robotics and engineering.  I also do some events and presentations for school groups.  At the outdoor event, we had kids drive one of our maritime robotic vehicles through an obstacle course under remote control.  They also drove a submersible with a vectored thruster through a series of submerged pipes.

Refugee Resettlement Volunteer

My family and I have been refugee resettlement volunteers in Durham, NC since 2008.  We volunteer through World Relief.  I love listening to the stories and perspectives of these people and many of them have become dear friends.  In parallel with the resettlement efforts, I’ve done STEM teaching and outreach with kids and parents in the refugee community.  I also help with school projects and homework and take Dads and kids on camping trips.
We serve on the World Relief Development Board.
